TECHNIKON LABS
Astrim’s Technikon Labs is a large, specialist pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Gauteng. Technikon Labs’ business was being interrupted by load shedding and rising energy costs. Broadreach offered a solar PV system with backup generators (integrated into the client’s own UPS), that seamlessly take over power supply when the grid is unavailable. The solar PV system supplements the grid and backup generators providing a significant cost saving to Technikon Labs. Through its team and partners Broadreach offered a fully wrapped technical and financial solution.
Technology: Flush-mounted rooftop Canadian Solar panels with Solis string inverters, integrated with two 660kVA Perkins backup generators
Size: 532kWp
Customer: Technikon Laboratories
-
SOVEREIGN FOODS
Broadreach was selected by Sovereign Foods to install a hybrid, ground-mounted solar PV system at their Wincanton hatchery. The system is integrated with on-site diesel generators to provide a least-cost load shedding solution. The project serves as a pilot for a wider roll-out within the Sovereign Foods group.
Technology: Ground-mounted, polycrystalline Peimar solar panels, with SolarEdge string inverters, integrated with the client’s on-site generator.
Size: 209kWp
-
SUMMERLEY COURT
Summerley Court wanted to reduce their carbon footprint, and also provide savings on electricity costs to its residents. Broadreach built, owns and operates a solar PV system for them that achieves these goals
Technology: Flush mounted rooftop polycrystalline Jinko panels with SolarEdge inverters
Size: 76kWp
Offtaker: Summerley Court luxury retirement apartments
-
MON DON ESTATE
Mon Don Estate needed to reduce their carbon footprint to meet their customers' sustainability requirements. Broadreach, together with its EPC partner, installed a PV system and simplified the farm's overall electrical infrastructure with a simple interconnection solution.
Technology: Flush-mounted rooftop polycrystalline Canadian Solar panels with SMA string inverters
Size: 78kWp
Customer: Mon Don Estate fruit farm, packhouse and cold storage
-
MOMENTOUS SOLAR ONE
Broadreach originated and advised Mergence Asset Management on the successful acquisition of a 70% stake in Momentous Solar One, a 6MWp solar PV plant outside Keetmanshoop, Namibia. In addition to working closely with the Mergence team, Broadreach also has an opportunity to acquire up to 14% in the project, which it is currently implementing.
Technology: Ground-mounted, single-axis trackers, with Canadian Solar panels, Sungrow inverters and ABB transformers
Size: 6.006MWp
Offtaker: Nampower
-
GIBA INDUSTRIAL PARK
Giba wanted to reduce their electricity bills and exposure to municipal price escalations, whilst achieving their "green" ambitions. Broadreach provided the solution.
Technology: Fixed-tilt, roof mounted polycrystalline Canadian Solar panels with SolarEdge inverters
Size: 150kWp
Customer: Giba Gorge industrial park
-
MBEKWENI SHOPPING CENTRE
The developers of Mbekweni Shopping Centre had a problem – they couldn’t obtain a large enough municipal electricity supply to allow their project to proceed. Broadreach solved their problem by integrating solar PV with an advanced power management system - at the same time saving them money and reducing their CO2 footprint.
Technology: Flush mounted rooftop polycrystalline JA Solar panels with Ingeteam inverters
Size: 210kWp
Offtaker: Boxer Supermarket (as anchor tenant), plus line stores
-
ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROJECTS
Broadreach recently entered into a joint venture with Energyworx (www.energyworxsa.com), to invest in their roll-out of energy efficiency projects. These projects involve retrofitting clients’ premises with energy efficient technology, on the basis that Broadreach shares in the resultant savings with the client.
Technology: LED lighting, efficient airconditioning, power management systems, heat exchangers
Clients: Initially 7 retail stores (Spar and Pick ‘n Pay franchisees), with further roll-out under way
-
SOUTHERN FARMS
Broadreach worked with Southern Farms over a lengthy period to tailor a renewable energy solution to their needs, and to obtain the necessary approvals from Eskom to connect the system. Early in 2020 the approvals were obtained, and the project commenced. In order to provide Southern Farms with a load-shedding solution, the solar system is integrated with on-site diesel generators into a hybrid system.
Technology: Combination rooftop and ground-mounted polycrystalline Canadian Solar panels with SolarEdge string inverters
