Adam Bekker
Managing Director
Meet Adam Bekker, MD and Co-Founder of Broadreach Energy.
Adam commenced his career as an attorney, specialising in commercial law and tax, and thereafter moved into the fields of private equity and corporate finance.
In 2014, Adam and St John - a long-time friend and business colleague - founded Broadreach Capital. Their vision was to create an asset management business within in the broader field of sustainable investment, and their vision ultimately led them into the field of renewable energy.
Since co-founding Broadreach with St John, Adam has focused full time on establishing the renewable energy business. He has found his passion in the blend of finance, law, science and responsible investing involved in the renewable energy industry.
Adam is a keen trail runner, which he has trouble reconciling with his interest in wine.


Jock Brown
Technical Director
Jock is an engineer with 12 years’ experience in the global energy and technology industries.
He has led multi-disciplinary teams and delivered business development, innovation and efficiency programmes. Jock has experience with emerging technologies such as solar PV and hybrid systems.
He has industrial experience from around the world including working in New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and Norway and has delivered projects in Europe, Africa, North America and Asia.
Jock holds a Master’s degree in chemical engineering, project management qualifications, and has held line management positions at DNV GL.


St.John Bungey
Executive Director
St.John’s career spans 25 years in financial services.
His roles have ranged across stockbroking, banking and asset management, with a predominant focus on emerging and frontier markets. Recently, this has been mostly in the private debt and equity arena, with an emphasis on impact and responsible investments. St.John is passionate about financial markets and investing, and believes strongly that asset managers can make a difference both as the custodians of capital, and through the impact of how that capital is directed.
Since joining Broadreach in an executive capacity, St.John has been engaged in corporate finance mandates and business development in the renewable energy sector.
In 2018, St.John and his family, undertook a year’s sabbatical. Heading west around the globe, the trip covered in excess of 80,000km, through 27 countries, with pauses in most of the world’s major wine regions.


Chantál Hugo
Head of Operations
Chantál Hugo has been working in Financial Services and heading up operational areas within large Corporates for over 25 years. She currently specialises in the operations management of the new joint venture between Broadreach and Capital Box. Her extensive experience in administration, billing and liability management along with her great management skills and focus on process efficiency and quality, make her an asset to the team. Her passion is ensuring that the customers’ needs are exceeded wherever possible.


Alison Nesbitt
Head of Finance
Alison Nesbitt, our Head of Finance, holds a Bachelor of Business Science majoring in Finance and Accounting, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, and is a qualified CA(SA).
Her professional journey, since her qualification in 2013, has been diverse. Spending six years in Corporate Finance, specialising in transaction advisory services, she gained insights into a broad range of businesses, from family enterprises to the listed sector. In 2020, she pivoted into commerce as the Head of Finance at a software development company, focusing on internal financial operations, policy enhancement, team building, and financial insights. While her background isn't in renewables, Alison's adaptability from her varied experiences positions her to make impactful contributions in this dynamic field.
Beyond the numbers, Alison finds balance through exercise, quality time with friends and family, and getting lost in captivating books. Recently, she has started playing Padel, foreseeing it as a newfound favourite activity.
For Alison, the appeal of renewable energy lies in the depth of its impact. She sees renewable energy as a dual force – making our environment cleaner and providing crucial support to local businesses in the face of challenges like load shedding. Being part of a movement with such far-reaching positive consequences is an exciting prospect.


Ayabulela Xongo
Finance administrator
Ayabulela is a dynamic Finance Intern at Broadreach Energy, bringing a strong foundation in BCom Accounting. He finds inspiration in renewable energy's potential to alleviate the country’s energy crisis – a crucial factor for business resilience and investor confidence in South Africa. His passion for finance, strategic thinking, and dedication to sustainable solutions make him a valuable contributor to Broadreach Energy's mission of driving positive change in the energy sector. Beyond his professional commitment, he enjoys online chess and coding, reflecting his strategic acumen.


Martin Wilken
Technical Operations
National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Digital Technology), SAPICS PPIM certificate (Principles of Production & Inventory Management)
Martin has 15+ years SAP R/3 Super User experience in the Logistics and Demand Planning space. He has an electronics background with circuit board design and fault-finding experience. Furthermore, his exposure includes extensive experience in data analytics and advanced reporting, and he enjoys applying a creative approach to new projects. Martin recently started applying his combined experience to the Solar Energy industry: he has been analysing customer data and simulated Solar PV designs for the last 7 months.
Martin holds a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Digital Technology) and a SAPICS PPIM (Principles of Production & Inventory Management) certificate.


Sabrina Strauss
Renewable Energy Engineer
Holding a degree in Mechatronic Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch, Sabrina firmly believes in the power of sustainable solutions to address South Africa's energy crisis and environmental concerns. Her excitement is fueled by the abundant sunlight available in the region, offering a wealth of solar energy potential. Moreover, Sabrina is inspired by the continuous advancements in renewable energy technology, rendering these sources increasingly efficient and cost-effective.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Sabrina's interests span the spectrum of creativity, from sewing to drawing. She also finds joy in the outdoors, exploring Cape Town's picturesque landscapes, whether it's hiking in the mountains or strolling along sandy beaches.


Marc Immerman
Non-executive director
Marc Immerman is a director of Metier. After joining Metier in 2009 he is now the managing principal of Metier Sustainable Capital and represented on the investment committee.
Marc qualified with a Masters in Finance from UNSW in Sydney Australia after completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg. He began his career in investment banking with Investec in Durban, and later at UBS in Johannesburg as an equity analyst.
Marc acted as CEO in a software business locally and in London, gaining experience in start-ups, rationalisation and international expansion. After deciding to focus on the renewable energy and resource efficiency, Marc co-founded the development of the Bokpoort CSP project. He has been integral in sourcing and transacting across the Mainstream wind portfolio, Bokpoort CSP, AE AMD and Oricol investments and is currently a director on the boards of Tecroveer, Kathu and Sindila.


Robert Nel
Non-executive director
Robert is an Associate at Metier who graduated from Stellenbosch University with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2005 and an LLB (top of his class) in 2008.
After completing his studies, he spent four years at Webber Wentzel attorneys, predominantly in the project finance practice group. During this time, he worked almost entirely in the renewable energy sector, and was part of the team that developed the REIPPP programme. His focus areas included drafting the PPAs for seven different generation technologies, interfacing with the technical and financial advisory teams and participating in bid evaluations. Rob also worked on gas, hydro and other energy and infrastructure project.
In 2012, Rob joined Bain & Company where he consulted to financial services, telecommunications and mining companies. At the end of 2015, he moved to Afriwise where he initially advised companies on African business and legal risks. Rob joined Metier in June 2018, his initial focus area was the management of the Sindila project.
